POST-DIPLOMA WORK PERMIT

In addition to the generous opportunities Canada offers its international students, the most promising benefit of studying in Canada is the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP), issued upon completion of a post-graduate program at a Designated Learning Institute (DLI).

Apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit

Eligibility: You must successfully complete your program of study from a DLI.

Duration: You must submit your application within 180 days of receiving official transcripts from your DLI confirming completion of the course.

Timeline: The 180 days begin on the day you receive official notification of program completion OR on the day your final grades are published - whichever comes first.

Location: You can apply for PGWP both inside and outside Canada.

Benefits: A PGWP is valid for between 8 months and 3 years, depending on the duration of the course. The immigration officer, after checking your supporting documents for the course taken, will determine the validity of your PGWP.

A PGWP will allow you to work full or part-time for any employer in Canada, helping you gain valuable Canadian work experience that could benefit you in the long term if you wish to consider permanent residency in Canada. The PGWP also gives you temporary legal status to work in Canada.

However, it is important to note that your PGWP cannot be extended beyond its validity, and as long as it is valid, you can apply for a Transitional Open Work Permit (BOWP) if your PR application is in process or change your status to visitor. if you intend to stay in Canada longer.
