Children under 22 who do not have a spouse or common-law partner are eligible as dependent children for Canadian immigration sponsorship. As long as they meet these requirements, you can sponsor them.

• your own child if he or she is not already a Canadian citizen.
• an adopted child
• An orphaned family member
• your spouse's or common-law partner's own child

Your eligibility as a sponsor includes whether you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Indian Act of Canada. In most cases, you do not need to demonstrate your financial situation in order to sponsor a child, but this may be different in specific cases.
