The Super Visa is a visitor visa that allows parents and grandparents of Canadian residents and permanent residents to reside in Canada for up to 5 years, with the possibility of a 2-year extension upon expiry of the initial validity period.
Benefits: This provision allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to 5 years at a time without having to renew their status, as opposed to the normal 6-month duration of a visitor's visa.
Validity: The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa that can be issued for a period of ten years.
Am I eligible to sponsor a Super Visa?
To sponsor your parents or grandparents in the Super Visa category:
Eligibility: You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
Documents : A written commitment of financial support to the candidates, a letter of invitation, details of your living conditions and the plan to support your family during their stay in Canada.
Proof of funds: You will need to establish that you meet the minimum income threshold according to the low income cut-off (LICO), which varies according to the size of your family household.
What do my parents or grandparents have to provide?
All Super Visa applicants have mandatory requirements as well as other evaluation factors.
Medical (mandatory): All applicants must undergo a medical examination and purchase Canadian medical insurance providing a minimum of $100,000 in coverage for health care, hospitalization and repatriation for at least one year from the date of entry.
Eligibility: The parent or grandparent must be eligible to live in Canada. Your PGP's intention to visit Canada, ties to the country of origin and the overall economic and political stability of the country of origin are some of the factors that will be evaluated to determine visa approval.
